Executive Summary

The Maryland Proton Treatment Center marks the second proton therapy project developed by Signet. The project’s clinical partner, the University of Maryland, provides all clinical operations for the facility as an extension of its current radiation oncology services. Varian Medical Systems supplied all proton therapy equipment featuring its ProBeam system that includes the latest in pencil beam scanning technology.

Project Details

Located within the University of Maryland BioPark in Baltimore, this center is situated amongst some of the most cutting-edge biotechnology and research companies in the country. This state- of-the-art facility features five treatment rooms (four rotational gantries and one fixed-beam room) and retail space.

As part of the project development, Signet provided a full spectrum of development services including land acquisition, horizontal infrastructure, entitlements and project and construction management. The Maryland Proton Treatment Center commenced construction in May 2012 and began patient treatment in spring 2016.
